Have you ever heard of the books titled "A Series of Unfortunate Events?" Well, we haven't read the books yet, but by the sound of their title, we figured from our experiences last week, we could write a new chapter or two, or maybe even a whole book! Nothing life threatening, but certainly life altering, as the Creator and Author of our lives continues His materful work . . . . "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." 2 Corinthians 4:17
It all started with a little vehicle collision . . . . in our driveway. No, we won't be naming any names . . . or vehicles:)
Sunday night, we had our little chickie massacre . . . . seven of our eight chickies dead in a matter of minutes. (See post "What Happened Here?")
Monday continued the revolving trips to the mechanics with three out of three of our vehicles . . . a new water pump, batteries that won't keep charged, replace U joints, belts, brakes, you name it!
Tuesday, we felt a bit sad when we learned that our case manager had a mandatory meeting in Seattle come up last minute, and would not be able to attend the local adoption consortium we had been looking soooo forward to!
We were a bit anxious on Tuesday and Wednesday, as two of our most favoritest and dearly loved people in the whole world both underwent surgeries. And our hearts ached particularly for the one that had lots of discomfort during the recovery process.
Our family's computer that we have been nursing along for a couple years finally breathed its final breath . We went off to get an inexpensive one on sale at Staples, but the store nearby didn't have any in stock. So, we drove all the way to Olympia. They had it, and were even so kind to plug it in for us to make sure it worked before we headed all the way home. Then, we got home, and realized the power cord was left there . . . in Olympia!
Victoria's cello that she had dreamt about for so long, saved up for and paid for by herself, waited many weeks for it to get new strings installed, and had been able to practice on it for just a week or two before hoping to play it at church for the first time this Sunday . . . came crashing down off its stand, breaking into several pieces!
Saturday, we received the long awaited hip and elbow x-ray report for our yellow lab Lucy's OFA certifications so the kids could go ahead and breed her next time around. (The dog has to be two year's of age to get the x-rays done.) The report came back saying her hips cannot be certified:(.
The computer cord that Staples said they would put in the mail for us on Friday should arrive to us on Monday. We waited anxiously over the weekend, to no UPS truck on Monday. Yesterday, we happened to be in the area for a doctor appointment, and thought maybe we should just stop in. The manager came out with the power cord in hand, saying it was sitting on her desk with a note to give us a store coupon, and nothing about mailing it to us:)
Last night, we made a special trip to the church to set up all our instruments and microphones for Sunday's worship since we will be away at the homeschool convention all day Friday and Saturday, we wanted to get in a good rehearsal with the microphones. For the first time ever, that we have seen, the stage was completely cleared of all the microphones and their cords!
As all nine of us piled back into the van at church, the last one in pulled the side door closed, and realized that the lock "knob" broke off inside the casing, and the broken off piece inside was jammed and would not allow the remote unclock button to unlock the door! So when we returned home, all nine of us either had to crawl out the rear of the van or by the driver/passenger seats!
But atlas! As we ponder the events of the week, we REJOICE! Not only because that is what our family is currently learning all about in the life of Paul and in the book of Phillippians, but because within these unfortunate events, there are many blessings to be thankful for!!!!!
Well I guess that is why the little girl on the side of the Morton box of salt has an umbrella
ReplyDeletewith the slogan "when it rains, it pours". Hopefully, you are all slated to start on a new path of
good luck, now that you have all of the bad luck out of the way!!!
Sounds like that has been quite a week for you, but thankfully, some of your favorite people came out of their surgeries just fine so that was a good thing!!! Except, yes, I think Kelley had more discomfort than I did. But just today we heard she can breathe good!!! Yah!~!!!!!!!!!
Love you more than all the granules of salt in the Morton's box!!! Meemom
What a week! It is good to count our blessings in the midst of our trials! Hearing about Victoria's cello broke my heart. I guess it's all a reminder that this is not our "true home". Sometimes when everything is comfortable and easy we can feel like it is. It's times like this when we long for heaven and the truly perfect existence that awaits us, and I guess that's what we should always be longing for.
ReplyDeleteSending love and hugs to all of you! Can't wait to see you in May. Let us know when you have travel dates so we can make plans!
Love,
Aunt Heather
Oh goodness. So sorry to hear about your series of unfortunate events! But I'm so happy that with these trials still comes rejoicing. The good stuff looks even "gooder" in contrast.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your struggles along with your strengths. You all are loved and cherished and my prayers are with you for brighter and more positive, fruitful days ahead!
With much, much love,
Kelley
